Avago Technologies Ships 25 Millionth ASIC Embedded SerDes Channel

Avago Technologies today announced it has shipped its 25 millionth embedded serializer/deserializer (SerDes) channel as part of the company’s application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) offering for storage, enterprise computing and network equipment manufacturers. Avago’s embedded SerDes intellectual property (IP) core offers low power consumption and extremely low jitter, enabling Avago to integrate as many SerDes channels as needed onto a single 90-nm CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) chip, each operating at up to 12.5 Gbps.

Avago’s broad embedded SerDes offering includes cores configured for use in 4-Gbps and 8-Gbps Fibre Channel, XAUI/CEI, PCI-Express and SAS/SATA applications. Avago’s ASIC capability is based on a heritage of high transistor ASIC designs with extremely high SerDes channel count. Previously, Avago integrated 96 3.125-Gbps transmit and receive channels on a single CMOS chip.

Avago Technologies’ embedded SerDes ASIC development model provides support throughout the entire product life cycle. It incorporates testing capabilities as early as the definition of system-level architecture and accounts for in-circuit manufacturing test, functional test, system turn-on and debug, and field diagnostics. With this model, Avago enables equipment manufacturers to develop high-bandwidth networking and storage systems with superior reliability and reduced size, complexity and cost.
